View Full Version : Stupid question... upgrading RedHat 7.1

I used to run ATITD tale 1 occasionally on a laptop running RedHat 7.1.

Recently I wanted to try dual boxing with this laptop now but of course the client now needs GLIBC-2.3.2.

Is there any point in me trying to upgrade this or is it basically a futile task? I tried looking for RPMs and while RedHat support mentions them existing all the files are 'missing'.

I guess I should probably just update to fedora core or something. Anyone know how painful this is to get working on a laptop and with the Nvidia drivers so I can actually play the game?

Thanks.

The client actually ran on Redhat 7.1? (Impressive, The builds dont usually work on distros OLDER than the build one which was 7.3...)

As for upgrading... Dont bother, Your best bet is a full reload... (make sure you backup first.) That RH 7.1 distro is ancient and most likely the upgrades wont work well. The level of difficulty getting a modern distro working on a laptop is probably less than if you tried the minimum (Redhat 9)

Ok thanks. Yeah I basically couldn't find the glibc RPMs anymore. Seems like at some point they existed but redhat pulled them along with support for 7.1 and it was just getting annoying to try to find all the pieces on various old sites with archives.

I've removed Red Hat 7.1 and grabbed the latest version of Ubuntu. I'm hoping after I get the Nvidia drivers on that it'll all work smoothly but I'll post here either way. :)

Thanks again.

Bit of trouble with the nVidia drivers as the instructions on the web were out of date but everything seems to be working now!

Thanks.
