Have tried a bunch of the command line options, any ideas? Let me know what you need to know to help (and perhaps how to get it!)
Thank you!

Ok, I see you running advanced terrain, at night. where is the brightness issue?

I thought it was obvious, all the compounds, guild halls, trees, all buildings in general look way, way too bright. You're telling me this is what it's supposed to look like?

This is what "normal" is to me, and how it looked before I got my new video card (went from Radeon 9250 to X1300) I can achieve the same appearance, at a low framerate, with the -noext command line option
And no, I am not complaining about advanced terrain or time of day lighting, only the brightness of everything....

The second image you show is without the advanced terrain (if your old card did not support it, it would not switch over even if you selected it do so), while the first is with the advanced terrain. My guess is that the old card also did not support the time of day lighting. Turning both off will likely get you close to what you were used to, if that is what you prefer (I like the looks with the fancy video card more myself).

With time of day lighting off, the buildings are even brighter (though slightly yellower...) with advanced terrain off, the brightness of everything doesn't change.
Please see my footnote - "And no, I am not complaining about advanced terrain or time of day lighting, only the brightness of everything"

Hehe, gotcha. I suppose the answer then is that yes, that is what it is supposed to look like.

The second screen shot is without Advanced Terrain... Turn if off if you prefer the old look :-) (Personally, I HATE the look of avanced terrain. The colors are WAY too saturated for a desert)
EDIT: I should add for completeness sake that it renders identically on linux, OSX, and Windows.

Thanks for your help, looks like I'll need to get used to how bright everything is.
Yeah, I don't much like the advanced terrain featuers either. Some of the stuff looks really nice, like the stone roads and gravel beaches, though!
