View Full Version : Client laggy?
I haven't been in a long time, but is the Linux client really really laggy right now? I mean this is beyond lag -- this is worse than a flip-book. Should I look at my drivers or is this a current client problem?
It was on my end. I reconfigured xorg.
And it's back again in T3. I think it only happens when I am rotating the camera. It crashes my entire system so I have to do a cold-reboot. Is this a client problem or driver?

The hardline view is that nothing in userspace (IE - The client) should cause your system to freeze solid... That indicates a driver/hardware issue. Now that said, there was a perfomance issue in the first rev of the client, Try relaunching and seeing if it downloads a new client.
I tried re-launching and there wasn't a new client. I suspect that it's my drivers -- there was a kernal update a few weeks back that automatically applied itself (Kubuntu), and that forced me to re-install the drivers.
My graphics card is a ATI Radeon 9600. Do you have a recommended driver to use? I believe I'm using the ATI ones now.

All that I can say is use the ATI ones... Which revision, no idea... I gave up on ATI cards on linux years ago :-( they did just release a new one though which may be better or worse.
I think I've isolated the issue to be a driver problem putting it into an infinite loop. I'm upgrading to the Dapper RC, and we'll see if that fixes it (it did download a new fglrx driver).
