Hello everyone.
I'm running SUSE 10.0, and I downloaded and "./eClient-linux.run"ed the ATITD demo file. But, when I run ./elaunch I get the following error:Fatal: Cannot write to output file: egenesis.lc
Any idea what I should do?
Also, I am using a Radeon 9200SE card. Is that going to be OK?
Thanks for your help.

Hello and welcome!
That message sounds as if there is some permission issue. Like if you installed as root and are now trying to run as user
Please cd into the directory where you installed eClient and check current permissions
ls -la *
Then, if permissions are for a user different from the one you are using to play, you have to log in with the current owner and then change ownership of the files to the user you want to play with. Using the example that you installed with root and want to change ownership to snwod:
chown -R snwod *
Note that if you did an installation on a central area of your machine so that it could be shared by several users, you may have a problem. Usually it is best to install the game on the user's home. When you login the client starts writing to the installation directory (content update, etc). So 2 users can't/shouldn't share the same directory simultaneously.
Hope this helps you solve the playing issue!
As for the graphics board, I use NVidia one. As far as I read around, Radeon<9500 will not display certain colors or graphic effects correctly as the board does not support certain "standard" paths (whatever that is). So, you may play but you may find some issues identifying herbs and few more. Please check the Linux and Windows forums for Radeon issues/questions.

Hello and thanks for your reply. Cause it worked like a charm!
Thanks. :)

Yes, that is correct, ATI cards less than the 9500 are not capable of running ARB_fragment_programs... which means currently (any for the forseeable future) no dynamic lighting, no cool water effects, no bumpmapping or specular mapping, no texture compression and no advanced terrain... :-(
There has been some work on creating an ATI 8500+ code path, but I have not had much success in getting either the NVIDIA register combiner programs OR the ARB_fragment_programs backported to the much more limited ATI_text_fragment_program... (God, the 8 instruction limit is killing me)

Unrelated to thread, but thank you for trying, even if it fails. Seriously, thanks.

Well, I guess I'll just have to get a better video card when I build my new computer. But, so far, it's not too bad.
Anyway...since this is my thread, I figure I might just ask another question about Linux here rather than starting another threa...
How do I make a shortcut for ATITD? I'd rather have something to click, rather than have to ./elaunch from the command line everytime I want to play.
Thanks for your help.

I use Suse 10.0 as well, so I'm guessing you are running KDE as your WM.
Right click on your desktop and choose: Create New -> Link to Application...
Change the text in the General tab to what you want the icon to say, e.g. ATITD
Clicking the big button (looks like a KDE cog) to the left of the text field lets you change the links icon. I couldn't find anything suitable so left it at it's default.
As long as you are creating the icon under the user you intend to play ATITD with you can skip the Permissions tab
Under the Application Tab
Description and Comment are both optional so can be left blank
Click Browse... point it at the elaunch application and press open.
Then click the little folder icon to the right of Work Path and choose the directory that elaunch is in (probably eClient)
Hit OK and your done :)

Cool. Thanks Murlock.
I ended up using the Kmoon icon for the button. I'll search for something a bit better later on...maybe kde-look.org.
Thanks again.
EDIT: Searched for something on kde-look, but found nothing. Ended up scaling down the Tests Icon from the ATITD wiki and using that. I'll attach a copy, if you want to use it. :)

I found after I tried that link out to actually play ATITD that it seems to have problems connecting to the server for some reason.
I found that by opening the properties of the icon, going to the Application Tab, clicking 'Advanced Options' and selecting 'Run in Terminal' this seems to fix it, but leaves a terminal window open while the game runs.
Hmmmm, maybe someone else knows a way around this?
EDIT: Icon looks cool - I'll use that. Thanks :)
