Ah well, I have a issue.
As the topic aply I experiences frezes in the game, not permanently, just for a second up to maby 5 seconds.
Thay come frequently, even if Im standing still doin nothing.
It is just the game that frezes, rest of X works fine.
I did not have this trubble in T1.
I have tryed to alter Videosettings. But to no use.
Anyone have any idea what this can be?
Its very irritating when I do stuff that requies good timeing, as CC burning. as It often makes me fail.

A lot of people have been experiencing short lag bursts (usually around a second (or two)) for the past week.
so the issue is known. Though I personally haven't experienced 5 seconds of lag yet. But I haven't been playing the last 2days either.

Well Iv "solved" it sort of..
It seamed to have to do with the sound.
atleast I dont sema to get them any more now when I start the game with -nosound
This might be cus I dont run ALSA.
Oh and thes freezes is not lag I believe, it is the client.

Ive always had split second little freezes as new models are loaded and when linux accesses the harddrive but it seems like it happens now even when theres nothing new to load up and more often.
Also when switching between wife and myself, sometimes I will get 5+ seconds per frame on new avatar, switching back and forth usually fixes it, scroll lock doesnt. It even happens sometime if I quit the client and login as other spouse from the one I logged out as.
Once in a while (once a week or so if I dont exit the client) the client trys to dump a 1+ gig egenisis.bug file. (I get a file size limit error so I dont know how big the file would be...)
Turning down the music under audio options doesnt seem to have any effect on the music level, the intro music is way too loud (all the music for that matter). I dont exit the client to avoid shaking the walls next time I start the client.
Also wondering if its ok to build cicada cages way out in the ocean down south of UN. Does anyone check to make sure none are built off the map there or should I be looking for cages down there too?

I have ALSA, but I'm not sure whether eClient uses it (Pluribus, is there a env variable or anything that controls this?)
I also see brief freezes, in fact, emphasis on the freezes, and not so much on the brief. Sounds like FaceAnkh sees some too, but he blames them on patching. I can't imagine with so few developers that I should be seeing patches every few minutes though.
I'll try again right now, and if it's much improved I'll add a follow-up to say so by tomorrow.

The freeze ups have gotten real bad over this weekend, last night I was having to switch to spouse every 5 minutes or so to get rid of them but now thats not working either. I seem to be permantly stuck in 15 seconds per frame land (even the log on screen takes that long to show a typed letter). My other 3d games still work fine. I have tried reinstalling and -nosound. Theres is a patching 1 file that comes up on the loggin screen and takes forever to go away (like it times out rather then doing a successful patch).

When the patch came for the server lockups I was able to play 10 or 15 minutes at a time again, but then after a day or two it went into permanante super slow mo mode again....seems like this started with the last linux cliant update or maybe the one before. Used to be I could go for days before super slo mo would kick in and switching to spouse would fix it for more days (I often would have some log file get too big first and kill the client).
I have tried all the client options in the README file and none of them have had any effect, I have even tried playing doom3 on a different x server (same video card) while atitd was running and Doom 3 worked fine, atitid didnt.
I have a duel xenon with HT computer so maybe theres some sort of weirdness going on there that no one else is seeing.
Since atitd on my windows laptop is unacceptable for some things (anything that takes a lot of accurate and speedy clicking) I wont be playing much atitd untill this gets fixed.

Can you point me to description of your hardware? I seem to have missed the post detailing what hardware/distro etc you are using... :-)

sorry, its a dual xenon 2.6 gig, with g4 ti 4800 video card, distribution was slackware a long long time ago (about 10 years ago)...spent this weekend upgradding nvidida driver from 43 something to current 76 something and upgraded xfree86 and glibc too and the kernal to lastest in 2.4 series...none of it worked...what finally did work was deleteing (changing the name) of the .egenesis directory. was afraid I was going to have to upgrade to 2.6 and nptl-glibc and have the nightmare Im sure waits for me there, but I dodged that for now. For now Im too busy kicking myself for not deleteing that directory first.

I hope people are not building them down there! - Its definately a bug exploit and the number of points it is taking to pass (not to mention needing 8 cicada to fill a 7 cicada cage now) does suggest there are a number of cages out there that people are just not able to find. :(

WTF... Ok, time to figure WTF could have gotten corrupt in the string cache to cause that... (Engine should NOT crash on a corrupt string cache, it SHOULD ignore it and have a larger download, I will look at it... (Tis common code between linux/OSX/Windows)

If you know a place to get off the map into the water there let me know... I will do an audit latter and bulldoze any cages not on the map. However there are currently ALOT of cages out in the world unfound... (That is the fun of this test)

I havent looked lately but back when I posted that question there were spots you could get off the map and "walk on water" on all four sides of egypt (although at the time I wrote that I didnt know you could do it anywhere else except UN). Its been months since I tried any of them. Going off the map to go around Sw corner saves you a long trip back up that narrow mesa on the western edge of map which I guess is an exploit in itself. I never tried to build a cage off the map to see if it was possible and I never found a cage out there either.

There used to be lots of places where we could fall off in the nowhere all around the map... But I think they were all blocked a few months ago by landscape configurations that limited access to the edges. I never found any more since. Never found any cages either when I ran down there. Had a nice project to build sculptures in the emptyness with Squatt, but the doors to the Unlimited World got closed before we could start it :(
