Now that I have upgraded my linux box to a P4, I have been trying to use ATITD but have experienced slow performance.

First the data....
Slackware Linux using 2.4.22 kernal
P4 running at 2.8 Ghz
512 megs memory
ATI Rage128 video card w/ 32 megs
And yes my DRI is working. I checked and run other games just fine. GLXGears says I get 40 fps.

My problem is when the game loads, it takes about 5 seconds to do anything. I thought it was updating a first so I let it sit for a while. But after an hour the performance was the same.

Example of the performance... click on my character to get a menu and it takes 5 seconds. Point to a menu option, 5 seconds. Click on a menu option 5 seconds.

So anyone have any suggestions? I'm baffled.

First thing to check is the output of "glxinfo | grep -i Direct" (If it DOESNT say yes, then fix that first.... You are doing software rendering)

The rage 128 is a VERY old card, I wouldnt expect great 3d acceleration from it anyway, however it does sound like you are doing software rendering.
