I am running Xandros Desktop 2.0 (debian based), with a GeForce 4 ti 4400.

After the updater runs its course, an empty window opens and does nothing. It isnt loading anything, isnt using any system resources, and there are no error messages in the console.

To make it even worse, after I kill the process, my elauch file becomes an empty file and I have to decompress the whole game again.

From the symptoms, it sounds like you sound is blocking. if using KDE, you must run elaunch from artsdsp or use the -nosound options.

Gnome and ESD can also collide like that.

Or pretty much the client and any other sound using program... (XMMS is another candidate in a fair number of cases)

run ./elaunch -nosound next time to see if that gets the client to start. Then we can try and narrow it... (Sound on linux is one major PITA)

That did it. Thanks a bunch!

I had the same problem but running ./elaunch -nosound still gave me a frozen client.

I am running Slackware 9.1, but that really doesn't say much about my system since I have updated most everything manually.

I am running:
kernel 2.6
kde 3.2

if there is any more relevant info you need, just ask and I will post all of it.

BTW, the sound does work with VMWare and XMMS.

*Edit -- I am using ALSA with SB Live.
