View Full Version : Error while loading shared libraries

I get the following error after attempting to launch the program the first time.

error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++-libc6.2-2.so.3: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Obviously a missing file but no clue as to what/where/why the installer didn't take care of it to begin with.

Not wanting to sound like a hard-ass but I think there's something wrong with this commercial software package......Just a few comments/questions follow.

What's up with the installer not asking me for an install directory? What's with the installer not asking me to confirm that I wanted to install?

This sort of puts me off considering this is a commercial package it is really the responsibility of the company developing the software to provide me with a competent working installer that stacks right up there with the windows world. Know what I'm saying? It is commercial and so the excuses of poor programming, lack of real installers, lack of support pages with common problems/resolutions, are unacceptable.

Anyway, if anyone has the answer to about that missing file please let me know how to resolve it.

Load the c++ compatibility libraries for your distro... Since you so wonderfully chose to rag on what you see as shortcomings, reporting problems without providing details is a true work of an incredible mind.

Now, that said, Tell me what distro you are using and you might stand a chance of getting assistance.

Greetings!

I am getting this same error and I am not sure which packages I need to install to correct it. I am using Fedora Core 2. Thanks!

Nevermind .... I found the answer already posted to this forum. I need to download compat-libstdc++-7.3-2.96.126. Found it on some FTP site.

NOTE: up2date --update compat-libstdc++ would have downloaded it from the Fedora repository :-) That is how I did it :-)

I get this error too, help!

I use Mandrake Linux 10.0, and I can't find compat-libstdc++-7.3-2.96.126 with the Mandrake package management system (urpmi).

Is there a tar.gz I can download anywhere?

Mandrake 9.2 has this nice drakconf utility. I guess Mandrake 10 has it too.
Look for 'libstdc++'.
Or look for a package that either contains the library file tha game says is missing (check the special search box for that (somethign like 'search for file names in packages')).
Else go to rpmfind.net and look for the missing library file there.

Good luck and happy gaming!

Aha! Thank you very much, but I'd just installed the Fedora Core 2 package (which, spread the word, works perfectly in Mandrake). I love Mandrake!

I have this problem as well.

I recently installed Gentoo 2005.0 with kernel 2.6.11.

If at all possible I would like to emerge this library, but I cant find it in the portage tree.

Any help plz.
